RHPS

lips! Just watched the last 30 minutes of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on one of the movie channels…and I’m struck that I remember some of the call-back lines — you know, the ones that the audience yelled back at the screen. I haven’t seen the movie since 1985, but it is absolutely amazing how watching it triggered a flood of memories, sounds, images. 43 times - mostly between Fall ‘84 and Spring ‘85, somewhere around here in OKC. What a joy it was to go every Saturday night and hang out with fellow oddballs…and then hitting Denny’s after the show, with 10 or 20 of us huddled into the large corner booth, chain-smoking, gulping coffee, most of us reveling in our status as outsiders and rejects, others just enjoying the scenery, but all of us peaceful and good-natured…and eventually finding our way home as the sun came up. By the way, if you’ve never seen RHPS, this cute re-enactment will give you an overview.

  3. I pulled up that map and it shows you in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Odd place to do Rocky. :)

  4. Oh gosh I LOVE RHPS. When I was in junior high the local theater played it at midnight one weekend. My best friend and I were just DYING to go and my mother, aghast and shocked that her precious child would want to see something like that, adamantly refused. She said, “There are things in there that no 14 year old should see.” She was such a party pooper. Of course, now that I have children of my own, I kind of see what she meant.
