Maher’s Idiocy of The Week

Tonight, on “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the too-smug host kept trying to make the case that all home-schooled children were being taught by racist, hillbilly Nazis. He displayed a picture of two “white power” teenage sisters who apparently are the Olson Twins of Aryan pop-music, and noted that they were home-schooled. OK, now try to guess what Bill Maher thinks of this:

a. “White power” morons are conspiratorial asshats who must indoctrinate their children with hatred and false pride by segregating them from society and brainwashing them from birth, and in no way reflect the vast majority of home-schooled children and their parents.

b. All home-schooling is bad and will lead to psycho-nutjob kids who will grow up to be racist, hillbilly Nazis, and home-schooling should probably be illegal.

If you guessed “b” then you’ve seen Bill Maher’s show. What an idiot. In other Real Time news, the spectacularly unfunny Scottish comedian Billy Connolly can finally get a job impersonating Dave Coulier. And Tony Snow, the lone voice of reason on tonight’s show, did a remarkable job of keeping his cool in the face of such overwhelming idiocy.

  1. Yeah that crap about home schooling was pretty idiotic. Maher’s always criticizing the public school system, but then he flip-flopped by advocating it over home-school. I was waiting for someone to ask him, “Would you rather have your kids home-schooled or taught science in Kansas?” I can’t help but notice the too-smug host has something in common with Bush: unbelievable arrogance.

  2. Yes, yes - I saw that and thought the same thing. Tony did fall into that too-easy-to-mock-but-nonetheless-true defense by saying that a teenager that committed murder was also home schooled, to which Maher sarcastically said that indeed people from public schools do sometimes step over to the dark side. And… ‘Teacher College?’ That sounds a little archaic/uninformed. Don’t teachers simply get Masters? Oh - haha - good one to Tony for saying, with a straight face, “Well, Bill, if you had read the research for this segment..”
