Whiner

*We interrupt our regular Snow Blogging to bring you a blog entry that has absolutely nothing to do with snow…regular snow-blogging will resume shortly.*

From the Air Force Times, November 7, 2005, comes this Letter To The Editor:

“No Welcome Sign At Park”
It is with great disappointment and regret that I write this letter. I proudly served our wonderful nation for 20 years in the Air Force and have realized that Ohio, the state in which I reside, does not support the military.
I am an avid camper and take great pleasure in visiting its wonderful state parks. Until this year I was offered a military discount to stay at our parks. I have been informed this benefit has been discontinued. My commitment and loyalty to our great nation has not discontinued.
I am disappointed.

Un-freaking-believable. Hey, John, the world does NOT owe you a magical discount on every little thing…and to say something so stupid as “Ohio…does not support the military” just tells the world that you’re a crusty old grouch. Get over it, dude.

  1. Yikes!

Granted, I enjoy a good military discount as much as anyone, but who really joined Americas all volunteer military force to get 10% off at the auto parts store?

    Just my view…

  3. P.S. 6.5 inches on the ground and “moderate” accumulations possible tomorrow and tomorrow night, as well! (And if I didn’t have OB appointments all over the place, I’d be SOOO STOKED! LOL)

  4. Awesome. I finally agree with you Dave. As I like to say “Nobody owes you shit, bitch.”

  5. Don’t let the right wing get word of this. Next thing you know the guy will be a “traitor” who is aiding the enemy by dissing America.

  6. That is pretty whiny. An avid camper would take great pleasure in visiting and supporting wonderful state parks. And not whine about a few measly bucks to do it.

  7. Didn’t we just have a holiday celebrating gratitude and thankfulness? Oh yeah, that’s right- it was LAST week.

  8. Hmmm…because he doesn’t get a discount on the state parks, the state doesn’t support the military? I guess he had best move elsewhere. I too have served my country for 20 years, and continue to serve, and I have NEVER asked for a discount. If they offer, great, if they don’t, they will still get my business based on the service they provide, not the discount I get. I couldn’t even begin to tell you what places in Great Falls or Montana that offer a discount to the military, nor do I care, but this city and state are great supporters of the military and I will live here the rest of my life, god willing!

  11. It might be interesting to see what other discounts the Ohio state parks dropped or still offer, and indeed how their overall budget is doing. Certainly it would not be admirable if they raised the prices for ordinary guests in order to keep them relatively discounted for those they would honor.

  13. I just returned from Iraq last month. I enjoy any discount I can get. When I came home on my two weeks leave back in Sept. I took my wife and two year old daughter to Sea World. Honestly I can’t even remember what the discount was but it was almost nothing for us to get in. But our state parks rely on the intake of fees to keep them running and kept up. Jeez it costs me a whole $18.00 to take my daughter camping and fishing. (no discount here in Texas either….boohoohoo). The hotdogs and marshmallows cost more than that. I guess Oscar Meyer and the Stay-Puff man don’t support our troops either. Since they didn’t come up and kiss my ass, and donate the food. Get a life fly-boy, like your desk job on some cushy air-base was that gruelling an ordeal anyway.
