Cheeky

Over at Ask MetaFilter, someone wants to know if it’s OK to read the lettering on a woman’s jeans/pants…you know, the sweatpants that have “flirty” expressions written across the butt. Usually suggestive terms, such as “sassy” or “cocks,” or just odd expressions such as “pink tacos” plastered across the backside. The consensus seems to be that if a woman puts writing on her butt, then she obviously wants it to be read, and it’s perfectly legitimate to read it. There is, of course, a difference between reading and ogling.
But let’s turn this around: what if guys walked around with similar lettering and words across their butt or crotch? I suspect that for females, it’s considered to be some sort of strong statement of a women’s power and pride (or similar psycho-babble), but if males did it, angry mobs and torches wouldn’t be far behind (no pun intended). What say you?

  1. [pauses] Either way - ew. I hate shirts or pants that have dorky sayings or catch phrases but I laugh at other people - oh wait - cause they’re *idiots* and if the person has something written on their behind or hm … in front … then they want attention and they get a good boot for it.

  2. I think it’s just the usual double standard some women have.

  3. I think it’s a stupid “look” to have letters across your ass. I wouldn’t be sorry to see that dumb trend go away. Then again, I’m old, cranky and sleep-deprived.

  4. Definitely a double-standard. A while back I saw one of those “women-only” fitness centers, and started thiking…if I were to open a men-only gym — even next door to this one — how many minutes would elapse before I got sued?

  5. Actually, I’ve seen guys with writting across their backsides. It looks just as stupid on them as it does on the females.

I really wish my company had a more strict dress code.
