HEY YOU GUYS!
I suspect that children of the 70s are largely divided into two camps: those who fondly remember “Sesame Street,” and somehow think that Kermit and Fozzy were cute…and the other group, who knew that “The Electric Company” was the ultimate in cool. TEC was hip, before we knew what “hip” was. And like all hip things, it eventually had to end in order to remain preserved in our brains, unlike Sesame Street, which “grew” and accommodated cultural changes and got more sensitive and dealt with depressing stuff like death. So for those of you Cool Kids who grooved to The Electric Company, here is a clip from YouTube that will surely bring back some memories…

I watched the Electric Company everytime I had a chance. I especially loved when Spiderman made an appearance, though I was a little disappointed when instead of speaking, he made a weird “wahh wahh” sound with a word balloon over his head.
Remember Zoom? Another one of my favorites. Boston, MA. 02134 Kind of silly in retrospect, but loved it back then.
I don’t much remember The Electric Company. But I know it had Tom Lehrer. ‘Nuff said.
I’ll never forget when I saw the movie “Carnal Knowledge” in college. It stars Art Garfunkel, Jack Nicholson, Candice Bergen, and… (wait for it) Rita Moreno.
It really, really, REALLY messed me up to see Rita Moreno having sex with Jack Nicholson. Childhood memories can’t take that kind of shock.
The Electric Company totally rocked! I always have flashbacks of the show whenever I see Rita Moreno or Morgan Freeman in something!
Both Sesame Street and The Electric Company rocked. I don’t think Fozzy was on SS though, I thought he was a Muppet Show only bear.
Favorite clip on TEC - the silhouettes of the mouths sounding out words. Eventually in jr high my friends and I would use it for bad words. friend1: “Sh” friend2:”It” together:”Shit”
Oops — you’re right, Nee — Fozzy was indeed a muppet. Eh…wasn’t too fond of them, either.
Cookie Monster & Grover were my favorites on SS but EC was teh coolest thing for “older” kids! LOL
Oh I loved TEC! We would watch it all the time, that and You Can’t Do That On Television. Remember that one??
Do you remember “My Rich Uncle Died and left me all his mmmmmm….”??? And who sang it??! When he won the Golden Globe (I think), he included “my rich uncle” in his thanks, without any explanation, which absolutely blew me away. I LOVED TEC! Thanks for the post.
