RIP
I felt a pain in my heart when Bunker Mulligan passed away nearly a year ago; I never met him, but read his blog often, and he was kind enough to visit mine on occasion. And now, again, the same type of pain: Rob, aka “Acidman” of Gut Rumbles, has passed away. Again, never met him, but exchanged comments and even an e-mail or two. Not as much of a shock as when Bunker died, as Rob had detailed his medical problems over the years and many in the ‘Sphere knew that his time would come sooner rather than later. But still: a shock. Vitriolic, verbose, blunt, and crotchety, and a damn fine blogger. RIP, Acidman.
ALSO: Day By Day has paid homage to Rob in today’s edition.

Sorry to hear this, Dave, although I didn’t know either of them, even online.
But I know the feeling. I first went online in 1995 (on CompuServe, when it was still CompuServe and not AOL Lite), and one of the regulars in the first forum in which I became active was a lady named Wendy.
Wendy was a lot like Rob, I suspect — outspoken, opinionated, and feisty, and she also had health problems, as she was confined to a wheelchair due to a surgery gone wrong. And we all felt the loss when she finally succumbed.
I think in some ways, we feel the loss more with the online friends we never meet in person because we realize we’ll never have that opportunity. RIP, Acidman.
