The Simpsons Movie
THEY DID IT! THEY REALLY, REALLY DID IT! I DIDN’T THINK THAT THE MOVIE COULD POSSIBLY BE WORTHY, BUT THOSE BASTARDS GENIUSES REALLY DID PULL IT OFF!
I had my doubts - like all true Simpsons fans, I had given up all hope on the show about five or six years ago, and instead relied solely on the syndicated seasons #3-#9 (roughly), choosing to remember the Simpsons as they once were, not the boring, mean, and lame show that it has become. But after hearing some good press about the movie, I finally decided to risk it.
AND IT WAS GREAT! I haven’t laughed so much in a movie theatre since…since…well, ever! And I wasn’t the only one - other people were laughing out loud, cheering, and clapping, too! It was comedy gold, and they managed to incorporate so many of the beloved characters - even if only for a brief moment (Gabbo!) - and hit on so many rich themes! And seeing it LARGER THAN LIFE on the Big Screen, with hi-def quality, was amazing. And it really qualified as a MOVIE — a real larger-than-life plot, not just a 90-minute TV show.
Definitely needs to be seen again - and again - in order to grok all of the good stuff. But here’s a few highlights: Marge cursing; Homer lamenting that everything he whips leaves him; Bart’s full-frontal; Spider-Pig (aka Harry Plopper) and Homer’s waste-storage facility; Maggie’s first word (really!); the look-a-like fugitive family; Smither’s futile attempt to prevent Apu from appealing to Burns’ humanity; and so many more!

I’m a believer - my faith is restored!

every single person I have talked to (or read their blog) has loved this movie. I can’t wait.
Great to hear that you liked it Dave - I was wondering about that. I’ll make a point of watching it now. Tomorrow, I’m off to Ft Worth for a week. If you see a hit from there, it just may be me.

Whoa! Don’t tell Quentin - he’ll be pissed. You missed Grindhouse, but you saw this?
Actually, I liked it better than Grindhouse, but that’s like comparing pizza and soap.
And go see Stardust! “Robert DeNiro puts the ’swash’ in swashbuckler…” *grin*
