Cloverfield Approaches

How many of you are excited about the release of “Cloverfield?” It sure does seem intriguing, and will probably get me into the theater. I don’t recall seeing a “monster” movie generate so much buzz since…um…never. So what can we expect? Well, there are 8 things that “Cloverfield” won’t be, and there are 10 reasons why “Cloverfield” lives up to the hype. So which will it be?
Me, I’m just hoping that the movie doesn’t wind up being the “Blair Witch Monster” — in other words, sucky and stupid and wanting your money back because nothing scary, dramatic, or interesting occurs, despite assurances to the contrary.

I didn’t get a chance to catch the 12am showing of “Cloverfield” last night, but am anticipating to see it tonight. I’ve been looking up perhaps anything and everything on the film since I’ve heard of it .. I definitely cannot wait.
Found an interesting article/clip montage on Maxim on “Cloverfield” and other movies that use the symbolic Statue of Liberty as a symbol of destruction of America.. and if you think about it, it really is pretty interesting.
I don’t want to burst your bubble, but it doesn’t sound very encouraging. One of the performers has already said that as a result of this movie, she will NEVER accept a role without seeing the script first. And whether or not the monster looks like Godzilla, well…it can’t help but essentially be Godzilla. Which, by the way, is the last monster movie I remember getting this much hype. (The most recent Godzilla, that is.)
Also, I can’t help but think of the episode of “The Critic” in which New York is destroyed by a giant, hungry Roseanne.
A co-worker of mine just saw it, and the first thing out of his mouth was “it’s very Blair Witch”. He also strongly advised bringing your Dramamine.
Me, I spent my magic cinema dollars seeing “27 Dresses”. Gah.
