Go Mitt!

5:04 am

My first choice, among the remaining contenders for the Presidential nomination, is Mitt Romney. Unlike the other three (viable) candidates, he is not a sitting US Senator. He is an executive with a track record of success. “Executive” - as in “executive branch.” McCain, Clinton, and Obama are all Legislators - hardly the model for leadership and vision that our country needs at the helm. Romney’s vision for America is strong, and he is not a typical Washington “insider,” unlike the other three.

I appreciate his position on national security and combating terrorism; his background in business suggests that he would have more success at curbing the growth and cost of government than previous Presidents; his desire to promote free enterprise and reduce federal muscle in healthcare is refreshing; on some “cultural” issues I’m less enthused, but he far outpaces his competitors in most ways. And, while it may seem trivial, I really appreciate his upbeat, can-do attitude.

I just hope that John McCain’s momentum is primarily a media concoction, and that Romney can emerge on top on Super Tuesday. McCain would be better than Clinton or Obama, but not by much: his assault on free speech - you know, that little detail in the First Amendment - shattered my ability to trust him, and his apparent mean-spiritedness AND sideswipe at capitalism last week really sickened me. Mitt Romney seems like the real thing. Got my fingers crossed.

  1. […] for me - I haven’t donated any cash, but if I do, it will be to Mitt Romney. I hope that I will still have a chance to donate to his campaign after Super Tuesday. February […]

  4. “Media concoction”? Are you seriously implying that McCain hasn’t really been winning primaries, but that the media just made it up?

Please clarify about the assault on free speech.

Sorry, I’ve been out of it the past week. I was so sick on Tuesday I came home and just crashed — didn’t even know what happened on Tuesday until late Wednesday afternoon.

  5. MarkFL, of course he won primaries - but the media absolutely adores McCain and love to give him airtime and lavish praise on him - much more so than they do Huckabee or Romney, for instance.

And re: assault on free speech — um, you HAVE heard of McCain-Feingold, haven’t you?

  6. Well, now you’re being silly. Why would the media want to give airtime to John McCain? That would only mean less airtime for wacked out pop singers, dead actors and live car chases — you know, the really important stuff.

By the way, given how well your support of Romney went, I don’t think McCain will be too thrilled to see today’s post.

  7. I just read in today’s newspaper that he withdrew from his faltering campaign.
