RIP WFB

Rest in Peace, William F. Buckley, Jr, and thank you. The world is a much better place for your presence.

Even if I disagreed occasionally with some of your publications’ reviews.

  1. […] over at BLTB, some whimsy, some politics, and some critters: RIP, WFB; very annoying commercials and a talk-radio host; some soulful sleestaks; and goats and sharks! And […]

  2. In 1977 I had the pleasure of spending several hours in the company of Bill Buckley at a private reception in a suite at the Statler Hilton Hotel in NYC. He and his brother James along with Ronald Reagan shared their insights and political philosophies with a small group of YAF leaders from around the nation. It was indeed quite a night for a kid from Great Falls.

As the evening and the mint juleps wore on, then UN Ambassador James Buckley and the future President Reagan had the good sense to leave, but Bill Buckley stayed on until early into the morning.

It is difficult to describe what it was like to chat with Bill Buckley that evening, but his incredible mastery of the English language coupled with his powerful intellect certainly created a memorable experience dulled only slightly by too many mint juleps.

Although I did not always agree with him either that night or since, I certainly agree that he is an individual who has significantly changed the world.
