OK, so I’m late to the party. Fashionably late, perhaps? No? OK, then very late. Babs, I’m sorry — no excuse, please forgive me. But since you asked, I answer…

1. We know you love blogging; but, what is your least favorite aspect of blogging.
Tough one…because I love every aspect of blogging! Blogging integrates so many things that I enjoy: meeting new people, staying on top of current events, expressing creativity, the joy of writing and words, and internet/web stuff. But a LEAST favorite aspect? Hmmm…not sure if this qualifies, but I really hate when I am not able to visit EVERYONE on my blogroll on a regular basis. It’s so depressing to miss out on something very happy or momentous that a blog-buddy just posted…if I get too busy with Real Life for a few days, or somehow just miss clicking on someone’s link, and then four or five days later read about something really good and then I feel delinquent for not stopping by sooner. You all know what I mean, right?

2. What are your favorite flowers and trees. Not really that big of a flower enthusiast — but I really do enjoy carnations. They’re so fluffy, so fragrant, so colorful - it’s almost as if they’re bursting with vibrant, joyous news!

3. Classics or contemporary? Please explain. Whoa. It’s too easy to say that I prefer both of them, so I’ll just say that “classics” probably edges out “contemporary by a slim margin. For instance: Frank Sinatra & Katherine Hepburn — it doesn’t get any more classic - or better - than them.

4. What is your favorite childhood memory. I have so very few of them…my memory of my early life is quite deficient, I think. I’m not sure if that’s due in part to being a military brat and never living anywhere for more than three years, but I strongly suspect that it’s a big factor. My childhood (0-18) is stored in my brain primarily in terms of Year:Location. For instance, if there is a reference to 1978, my brain immediately flashes: “1978 - which falls in between 1976 and 1979…I lived in England.” I then see an image of the house we lived in, and a few snippets of the entire three years spent there — sort of like a very brief highlight reel. ‘79-’82: Edwards Air Force Base. ‘82-’83: Spokane. So for childhood memories, it’s difficult to pick one, because there are very few.

But let’s try picking out a strong image or memory from a few years…1972, going to Veterans Memorial coliseum to watch the Phoenix Suns with my dad; 1973, dad telling me & my siblings that he had joined the Air Force and that it would “turn our lives upside down” (in a good way); 1974, walking through a wooded area with Tommy Franklin and my brother and seeing copperhead snakes; 1976, seeing July 4th fireworks in DC; 1979, flying back to the U.S. and seeing my folks purchase a beige station wagon; 1980, roller-skating; 1981, first cigarette; 1983, fanboy for David Bowie; 1983, first job (solely in order to be near Babs, who worked at El Chico’s); 1984, graduating from Choctaw High School and rushing off to the theater to see “Breakin‘.”

5. Describe what your life would be like if you were independently wealthy. Aye carumba! I would probably live in some sort of incredible log-home here in Montana — not sure which part, but probably either near Kalispell, Great Falls, or Choteau. And I would own a coffee shop and spend lots of time there with the Better Living Family. And it would also contain high-speed internet terminals and many TV screens. Perhaps something like this. And I would spend most of the day watching news (and a few loved TV shows) and blogging and perhaps teaching a college course about…about…something. Don’t know what, yet. And possibly create some sort of Montana-themed magazine. And we would probably also own a home in San Francisco, one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever visited, and which the Better Living Wife adores. And I would throw a MONSTER HUGE party here in Montana ever year and fly in my favorite friends and bloggers!

Beyond that — I’m open to suggestions!

So, Babs…how did I do…?

  1. Oh Dave, that was excellent and well worth the wait.

I do understand the visits to blogs; carnations do burst with vibrant news; we have always had the classics in common; I too associate years with the houses I lived in at the time; we have some great memories from El Chico’s and I still wish I had gone with you graduation night; and I want to attend the giant blog party in your incredible log home.
